**It is Mandatory that we secure the barrels to prevent tipping over. Eventually the wind will knock them over usually bending the drive shaft!!

Hi Rod,

I used the Easy Pluck in SD this week and am well satisfied. I had quite an audience. Mallards worked best. Pintails second. Gadwalls and widgeon worked well-widgeon had a little more fat. It actually worked pretty well with teal. Northern shovelers were a little harder. We plucked 44 ducks in three days.

The first drill I used I had a hard time getting a good grip and chewed the drive shaft up a little. I then reversed the plucking wheel to use the other end with a different drill. It worked well. I walked away from the system to get some more hanging ducks; a wind came up and blew the barrels over with the drill still attached and I bent the second end. Is it possible to just change the drive shaft? Is that something you could send me or direct me to a hardware store with a description?

Another question -what do you use to clean the plucking wheel?

Thanks,

Rod, sorry I haven't responded to you yet, been hunting in Utah. I found the assemble of the easy pluck simple. Have tried it out on some smaller birds, but they were too thin skinned, (quail and chuckar) I don't usually pluck them, but had to give it try. Are the rubber fingers replaceable? If so, maybe some softer fingers would work better on thin skinned birds, just a thought. I did do two of my chickens and I can see that with a little practice you would be able to master the easy pluck. Anyways, the fall Turkey season opens tomorrow, hopefully I can try it out again then! As far as the waterfowl goes, we are just starting to get a good movement of birds, and I will contact you within the next month. Until then, good hunting to you!

Bill Monroe, President, Outdoor Writers Association of America auctioned off an Easy Pluck that we donated to Jennie's Christmas fund for the Kids (Children's Hospital). Bill had put an Easy Pluck together and personally tested it before the auction.

Bill's comments:

The Easy Pluck, a very simple concept and common tool adapted to the hand drill out in your shop (yeah, yeah, why DIDN'T I think of THAT!). I have built one of these and personally tested it. As advertised, it goes together quickly. You will like this, even if (especially) you currently don't pluck your ducks.

Why did you not put this out when I first started my duck hunting? Great item. I had seen one but MUCH LARGER here in Texas in Katy (reminds me of an old washing machine tub). Since then I was trying to make one on a small scale like it, but no luck. So far it, this is working great for me and my friends here in Texas-sure makes cleaning a lot more pleasurable. Will let you know how many birds I cleaned (kinda slow hunting here as birds aren't down just yet). Again thanks for taking to make this for me …lo!

Rod, your plucking concept of the barrels was o.k. if you had 2 barrels the same size. I had to put ˝ inch conduit (3 of them) on the smaller barrel to keep if from falling over. Which I think for someone that has a garage full of materials can accommodate you're invention.

I did like it after the 5 hour set up with 2 different barrels. All I had to do was slide one bar right over the other. The plucking and control of the feather was superb. I really enjoy your invention and will be using it till the duck's don't come home.

Rod, more ducks than we have had in years here on the Texas gulf coast. I have recommendation for you machine. I think the "fingers" need to be a little longer and a little more flexible to keep from tearing up the little ducks. We have many teal, blue bills and wood ducks all season.

I saw your feature in the Oct. issue of the DU magazine. That's one of the reasons I bought it. I like to support those who support what I enjoy. If I may, I would like to place an ad in a local organization's newsletter. I'm the acting president of the Oregon Duck Hunter's Association…..We still have 1 ˝ weeks of ducks left. This time of year, I switched from puddlers to divers. The plucker worked well on the two cans we got last weekend. Some of our geese(cackler) are as small as mallards. They have plucked out very nicely, less than 5 minutes. I usually don't pluck more than 1 or 2 geese a season, but have found that they turn out very tasty when soaked in apple juice and than cooked on a Traeger barbeque. Overall, I have plucked 3X as many birds this year as the Easy Pluck has made plucking them easier than skinning.
Thanks for a great product.

Rod: it arrived today, all in order and just in time for Christmas. AND, the day after I plucked 8 ring necks by hand. We wish you, your wife and family a very merry and blessed Christmas, Thanks for your ingenuity and product!

We love it, Got 1 bird short of 5 limits just before the season ended. Not sure if my hunting mates thought it was efficient or fun to boot, but they plucked their birds in record time with smiles on their face. Great Product!

Yes, the boys have used the plucker. So much better than doing it by hand. We ripped the skin on the breast of the first bird. I think he was pushing down to hard. They sure wish we had it the day they brought home sixteen ducks! The boys put some lead weights in the bottom so it will not blow over. We are located east of Vancouver about 20 miles.
