Easy Plucking InstructionsDry ducks pluck the easiest, so as soon as we can, put the birds in the sun to dry. If you can put the ducks on top of your blind to dry, do so! I take the ducks home, cut the wings off as close to the body as possible (hand pluck any long feathers that remain as the fingers won't pull these ). Run your hand against the lay of the feathers to "FLUFF'' the feathers and sun dry for an hour or two. If there is any blood oozing out this must be rinsed away with cold water , then " FLUFF '' and dry. With the drill motor securely attached, clockwise rotation, hold trigger ON, depress LOCK/ON button and we are ready to pluck.!!!! Grasp the head/neck in lower hand , legs/feet in the other hand and gently touch the back to the rotating fingers and "roll" the bird back and forth rapidly as the feathers fly into the barrel!!!! If we hold the duck in one place to long, the friction melts the fat and the fingers become quite greasy and no longer "grab" the feathers. When this does happen, STOP, wash the fingers with a degreasing detergent and water and resume plucking. 10/12/09 This past weekend, I learned a few more tricks. Spray the greasy fingers with some degreasing detergent, let soak for a few minutes then start the drill again only this time holding a scrub brush tight to the fingers, 3-5 seconds ea., first in forward then reverse. One more observation I made, if the feathers are dry, no grease on the fingers, and the feathers are not "FLYING INTO THE BARREL", apply more pressure, pushing the duck into the rubber fingers. This was a problem encountered yesterday by a fellow hunter/PLUCKER When the back and sides of the duck have been plucked, roll the bird to its front and pluck the breast and belly. Now we can pluck down one leg, lift the leg and pluck the underside of the leg, roll the bird to the other side and repeat. Clean up any feathers that remain and we are done!!! We cut the tail feathers/gas vent off with a knife when we gut the birds as the rubber fingers will not pull many of the long feathers. On some ducks the skin seams to tear very easily so we back off on the pressure applied. If you have "ANY" trouble at all, please watch my video again or give me a call!!!! 10/25/09 To prevent wind tipping barrels over, large rock or other BALLAST in bottom barrel, duck tape around barrels to keep them together. 11/1/09 I just talked with one of my PLUCKERS from Labrador, Can. He stated that the plucker wouldn't pluck geese, nor Sea Ducks, I NEGLECTED TO INSTRUCT GOOSE SLAYERS, pluck a hand full of feathers(by hand) so the fingers have a place to start, then pluck as normal. 40 years ago, I used a large commercial plucker at a local game reserve and the "EASY PLUCK" is easier to use and more efficient than the larger commercial plucker, guaranteed !!!! 877-577-2279
